Project Pantheon - High-Chieftans Pt.1

Description

-Edit- Changed "Ordovician" to "Cambrian" because boy howdy did I mess up the order of things for the Mesopotamian Pantheons! Ordovician is for a different beast.

Hey there everyone! Finally doing a return to Project Pantheon, but with a TWIST! Instead of a Great Beast (Ammit is the next beast in the roster), wanted to show you a glimpse of the actual deities that are the main focus of the story. Some are new, some you may have already seen before, but I used all of what I learned in Character Design class to give more life and personality to my drawings.

These are the Chieftans, the bosses of their Pantheons, and the bosses of many a Great Beast. Like "lesser" deities, they each have an attribute associated with them that gives them power. Unlike their underlings however, they can do waaaaaaaaaay more with them. God of lightning? Try controlling all of electromagnetism. God of the sky? Space is your playground, teleporting from one end to another. An angel associated with soldiers? You're the physical embodiment of strength, endurance, power and progress, every fight empowers you, every new idea generated fuels your already insane arsenal. In other words our main protagnist Mars, the god of war, is absolutely pathetic compared to these guys.

For the first batch, I drew them specifically because amongst the Chieftans, they're definitely the tallest of the bunch, so you can get an idea of how big they are. Also because they're the most physically capable, even when they have matter-manipulation, they're the most likely to go toe-to-toe with each other.

Clockwise:
The Archangel Michael: Or his proper title in this universe, The Lord Sovereign of Outremer. The strongest of all the Chieftans in pure physical might, ruler of the former Milky Way Galaxy and neighbors. Once an idealistic angel, after defeating all other Pantheons for the seat of the Galaxy during the late stages of the Omni-War alongside a civil war amongst angels, had lots of his optimism sapped away. This isn't helped by the fact that, 9-out-10, alien pantheons try to invade the galaxy out of sheere egotism, malice or a chance to defeat "Humanity's Strongest". Amongst other Pantheons, he is both admired and hated, respected and feared, a subject of much debate since he is after all the guy who ousted almost everyone, but at the same time isn't a sadistic psychopath that'll hunt them down for retreating and honors his role as a Neutral party amongst the Pantheons. Ultimately though, he's a good, honorable person, and there is still some of the "hero" of his earlier days, as he's always willing to help if a foreign pantheon is in desperate need. But alas, universal politics gets in the way, and no one wants the Archangel himself to side with any Pantheon and decimating the battlefield... nor do many Pantheons want to ally with him. In spite of this, his Neutrality policy allows the Milky Way to be a hub of commerce amongst the stars, backed up by one of the most powerful militaries in existence. Fights mostly with his fists, and when he needs a really big beatstick, can call up Behemoth.

Ra:
King of the Egyptian Pantheon, High Pharaoh of Kemet. Overall nice bloke, but keeps a very strong grudge to those he feels has wronged him (Zeus in particular). During the Omni-Wars, he and the Egyptian Pantheon were one of the first combatants, along with the Olympians, over something to do with a mysterious and disasterous event that wiped out sentient life, both mortal and divine, in a large portion of the galaxy. After having to exile himself from the Milky Way, he carved out one of the largest empires amongst the human pantheons, through the use of both militarism and his famed diplomatic ability, much preferring to absorb smaller kingdoms and pantheons via negotiation. A little paranoid over the years, due to the fact that Isis once tried to trick him and reveal his "secret name" and thus obtain power from him, and thus has a heavy authoritarian bent when it comes to governing his own Pantheon members. Controls the physical aspects of stars, and can manipulate intense amounts of heat, can create stars on the spot, along with the use of blades on his arms. When diplomacy fails and no other option is available, he uses Ammit as a last a resort.

Tezcatlipoca: King of the Aztec Pantheon, the Shadow Beast and Lord of the Night. Tezcatlipoca's role in the story isn't as well developed as the first two, but basically his domains in the universe are supremely independent of each other, united under the fact that all the other Aztec Gods both fear and respect him even more than they mistrust each other. Able to control dark matter and the shadows, this gives him practical omni-science in his territories, always useful for making sure "lesser" gods do their work. Has an even fiercer rivalry with Quetzalcoatl than in the original, who is now known as Kulkulcan.

Vishnu:
A very new addition to the roster, the Leader of the Hindu Pantheon in this setting, so his role in the story is also not yet well developed. One of the few beings that can go toe-to-toe with Michael via the versatility of his weapon use, as well as the ability use Cosmic Energy, meaning he can manipulate space in-and-of itself, making him the jack-of-all-stats in terms of godly-matter-manipulation.

Nammu:
The primordial water Goddess of Sumerian mythology, before the Babylonians reinterpreted her as a Chaoskampf creature. Mesopotamian gods and godesses are in general more eldritchian that the others in this setting, with Nammu looking like a woman that infused herself with all manner of sea-life, along with organic-looking armor. Is a total psycho who rather likes being feared, unlike Tezcatlipoca who considers it his nature to be feared. Can transform into a gigantic beast, Tiamat, a monstrous creature that represents the Cambrian Extinction event, and terrorizes the other members of mesopotamian pantheon.

A huge shoutout to :iconsirkaijuofvaudeville:, who's great knowledge of mythologies from many corners of the world was essential to making Project Pantheon's setting richer and more fleshed out, with a plethora of future possibilities for me to brainstorm as a result.

I'm not sure Tezcatlipoca would be the high cheiftan of the Mexica gods.  Quetzalcoatal has as much power as he does, because Quetzalcoatal can move the sun by breathing on it.  I'd normally say go for the Sun god, but the current Mexica Sun god is, well, underwhelming.  His guardian, Huitzilopochitli, is undefeatable, but isn't that good of a guy either.  Tex roped him into destroying the empire Quetzalcoatal had when he was the sun.  The Mexica honestly don't have a guy who is truly at the top.  It's more a series of disagreements with each other.

But if you do use Tezcatlipoca, know that his left foot is a prosthetic replaced by an obsidian mirror, and that he has another obsidian mirror that is really bleeping magical.  He sacrificed his foot to Cipactli, primeval monster and teeth everywhere, in order to help kill it, and then got really really mad when he was prevented from being the Sun God.  Tezcatlipoca is more or less the one god who keeps on destroying the world, because he's a jerk who won't let it die down.
