Marauder Walk Test

Description

Okay! At last exams are over and I wanted to submit something as soon as possible! For today, my first animation on DA! This is mostly a test animation applying different skills I learnt from my project from school, as well as testing how to create the effect of "distance" and applying layering. Originally was going to be a gif file, but when I exported it it was slow... as... heck...

For my watchers you may recognize it as one of the creatures here: [link], so yes this is a kaijuverse pic.

OK! Now looking at the animation itself! I used a baboon walking as a template, and using the beady eyes and teeth as practice for learning "consistency" and proportion in animation. Overall I'm satisfied, but it looks like still have ALOT to learn.

Here's my likes:
- The hind legs, they have to be the most consistent part of the body right now
- Head motion, I can't believe I actually got the head to bob up and down like an actual walking creature! It gives it a sense of weight that I like.
- The body shading, overall much better than expected (unless they're the ones at the back).
- Movement of the background is much smoother than I expected, and considering they were made in photoshop, I'm happy they did!

Now my biggest gripes:
- The arm locomotion. Even with the use of construction lines and ovals, at times the arm (especially the lower arm) seems to stretch and thin unrealistically, making it seem shorter at some parts more than others. I know about the "pendelum effect" limbs have, so I'm especially griped by this aspect.
- No shadow. I'm going to try and find ways to shadow figures later, because everytime I try to shadow in flash, something goes wrong (the inconsistency creates a... floaty feel).
- The tail. It feels the most weightless in my opinion

So! What are your opinions on this? Anything you'd like to add?

How many frames does it take to do something like this?
